Sticking with goals.
Yesterday I posted a blog on consistency. I’m so glad I took the time to really write down the reality of what is going on. This morning I noticed that some of the belly fat has disappeared a little. When I say “a little” it’s very little. However, I must say I’m proud of myself. If I push through and remain “consistent” soon that little bit of belly fat I’m trying to lose….will be gone for good.
The habits will be formed. The habits will remain. I’ve been consistently exercising for at least 2 months straight. Have I missed a couple of days here and there? Yes! The biggest struggle is to not beat yourself up. Pick yourself up the next day, and start again. Say to yourself “yes, I missed a workout…oh well! Today I will do it again”
Sometimes we need those missed days though. Sometimes the body is just telling you “Whoa partner…I’m TIRED.” You have to listen to it. If you are too tired to actually run, then walk. At least it’s a little. If you are too tired to walk, then rest for a day. It’s OK to rest for a day. Just don’t let it deter you. Don’t let that one day, turn into 10. Don’t say to yourself, ” I blew it…..” You didn’t blow it, you took a day off. Your body needed it. Tomorrow, you will try again. With this attitude, it’s much easier to meet your goals.
We, as Americans, want instant gratification. Guess what? I’m well into my 30’s now, and getting into shape doesn’t come instantly. I’ve been running on and off for a couple of years now, and never met my goals. Not only until the past couple of months have I begun to really persist and progress. I don’t see the progress overnight. Over a couple more months, I might see some more. Have I seen the effects that I want on my body? No, not yet. Have I see growth as a person? Absolutely! Have I been consistent? Absolutely. I have met some goals, but not all of them. However, if I met all of them at once, then what would be the next thing that drove me to the next goal?
Hopefully someone might read this and it will motivate them as well. If not, at least I know that I shared my feelings and success, as minor as it might be.
This morning I woke up late, and didn’t exercise. I hope to do my weight lifting when I get home today for my half day of work before I study for school. If I miss today? It’ll be OK. Tomorrow I will not let it bother me. Tomorrow is a new day….and I will get up and do my morning run like I always do on Tuesdays.
